Housing (NOTE: The information on this page is from 2010. It will be updated once we have contracts signed fall 2011.)
Housing Options
Housing is available for singles, couples and couples with children. Housing options include both on-campus housing at Rollins College (i.e., dorms) and off-campus options (hotel and apartments). Unlike CSU where singles and couples without children are required to live on campus, you will have the option of living wherever you want (i.e., on or off campus). If you do not plan to bring your car, you will need to live on campus.
There are five housing options available:
1. On-Campus (Dorm Room) with a Meal Plan: On-campus housing is available to singles and couples without children. The rooms are air-conditioned and include two desks and two single beds. You will need to provide your own pillow and linens (i.e., towels, wash cloths, pillow case, sheets, bed cover, etc.). NOTE: The beds are extra-long singles (36in by 80in). If you are single, you will share a dorm room with another IBS participant. Although there is no requirement prohibiting families from living on campus, we do not recommend this option unless you don’t mind having a child sleep in the same room with you.
If you live on campus, you will not need a car and will have convenient access to our computer lab and IBS library (which will be in one of the dorms) as well as a short walk to class. In addition, you will not have to worry about cooking any of your own meals. (Rollins has contracted with Marriott for their food service.) Past IBS participants have found meals to be a significant opportunity to connect with other staff.
The cost of the dorm is $800 for all for weeks of IBS (approximately $400 for two weeks depending on your departure date).
You have three meal plans from which to chose:
- Lunch only, M-F, all four weeks, $160
- Dinner only, M-F, all four weeks, $180
- Lunch and dinner, M-F, all four weeks, $340
You can pay cash in the cafeteria for meals over the weekends.
2. On-Campus (Dorm) without a Meal Plan – Same information. $800 per person. (Note: There are no facilities in the dorm for preparing food. You can purchase meals on a cash basis in the cafeteria.)
3. Candlewood Suites (Candlewood Suites, Altamonte Springs) – There are two options available at the Candlewood:
- Studio Room: This would be a hotel room with one queen bed and a kitchen (refrigerator, microwave, dishes, etc.). The cost for this option for all four weeks of IBS will be $475 per adult (based on double occupancy). (Note: A “studio” suite has no separate bedroom. It is simply one large room. This is great option for couples without kids but not families. This discounted rate requires 25 night minimum. If you come for only two weeks, the daily rate will be considerably higher.)
- 1 BR Suite: This would be a hotel room with a kitchen (refrigerator, microwave, dishes, etc.) and separate sleeping area with a queen behind a door. It also has a sleeper sofa. The cost for this option for all four weeks of IBS will be $850 per adult (based on double occupancy). This would be an attractive option for families.
These options is available to everyone: singles (who want to share the room with another single), married couples without children, and couples with children. Although this represents the most reasonably priced option, it is about 20 minute drive from campus. You will definitely need a car.
4. On-Campus One-bedroom Apartment (Sutton Place South Apartments) – These are furnished one-bedroom apartments. The cost for this option for all four weeks of IBS is $900 per adult (kids are free). Because a limited availability of apartments, families have first priority on all apartments. (There are very few 1BR apartments available.) You can purchase a meal plan (see options above).
5. On-Campus Two-bedroom Apartment (Sutton Place South Apartments) – These are furnished two-bedroom apartments. The cost for this option for all four weeks of IBS is $1200 per adult (kids are free). Priority will be given to the largest families. (If you are single or married without children and would like to be considered for an apartment, you may request an apartment; however, it is quite likely we will only have enough apartments for the families.) You can purchase a meal plan (see options above).
6. Other Options. In the past some staff have been able to "house sit" for CCC staff who live in Orlando and are out town. If you are interested in this, you could put an ad in the "HartBeat" which is an email that goes to all staff at Lake Hart. Send an email to Debbie Groves (Debbie.Groves@ccci.org) who manages the HartBeat.
Childcare
Childcare will be available during the morning class sessions, Monday through Friday during the four weeks of IBS. Childcare will cost $125 per week for the first child and about $100/wk for each additional child. Childcare is held in South Sutton Apartments.
